Lexington is known for its horses, so it’s only natural that it’s also the perfect place to interact with them. Big Red Stables is just one of many stables that offers scenic horseback riding tours through the country, giving a unique view of the bluegrass region you won’t soon forget. For a slower-paced outing, there’s Eckert’s Boyd Orchard. Here the whole family can pick pumpkins, apples, blackberries and other fruits. There’s also a 90 foot slide, pig races, a corn maze, apple cider, and bonfires!

If the kids have too much energy and need to burn some off, then a physical activity is the perfect option. One fun option is the Lexington Ice Center, where there’s two rinks for kids to practice their skating skills. White Haven Golf is another great option, complete with its windmills, loop-the-loops, and 18 holes. There’s also Champs Entertainment Center, which has laser tag, putt-putt golf, and most exciting of all, a roller skating rink. Catch your breath afterwards by catching a show at the Lexington’s Children’s Theatre, which has been putting on shows since 1938. Some of the shows this season include The Little Mermaid, and The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe. If you’re lucky, you might just catch the one show a season that is held at the Lexington Opera House.
