St. Patrick’s Day in Lexington isn’t just about wearing green, it’s about raising a glass (of bourbon whiskey, of course, not Irish whiskey), embracing our deep Irish roots, and soaking in the charm of the Bluegrass. From lively parades to historic stone fences, we know how to celebrate with a perfect mix of Irish tradition and Kentucky flair. Here are five ways to make your St. Paddy’s Day in Lexington one for the books!

1. Participate in the Lexington St. Patrick's Parade and Festival

Kick off St. Paddy’s Day weekend at Henry A. Tandy Centennial Plaza on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Expect toe-tapping live music, high-energy Irish dancing, and delicious eats and drinks all in the heart of downtown. The Blessing of the Keg begins the all-day celebration at 10:45 am, followed by live entertainment from regional bands, pipers, and musicians, local Irish dancers, and food and craft vendors, perfect for all ages. The Alltech Lexington St. Patrick's Day Parade begins at 1 pm, and afterwards, the celebration continues with even more music, dancing, and festivities until 4 pm.

If you want to begin the weekend's festivities even earlier, join the Lyric Theatre for the inaugural Lexington St. Patrick's Eve Live! concert on Friday, March 13. Headlined by the internationally acclaimed quintet Carbon Leaf, the evening will feature a blend of indie rock, traditional Irish roots, and local musicians, with a lineup including Dublin's own The Woolly Jumpers, Lexingtonian Lucy Becker, and award-winning bagpiper Keith Murphy.

2. Do Some Local Downtown Shopping

While you're celebrating downtown, be sure to stop in at a few local businesses. Head to Irish-owned Fáilte, which translates to "Welcome" in Gaelic, for a diverse selection of fine goods imported from the Emerald Isle, including Hanna caps, Celtic jewelry, clothing, and imported foods. Afterwards, visit the Lexington Visitors Center in the Historic Lexington Courthouse for a St. Patrick's Day Open House. Open from 10 am until 4 pm, the Visitors Center will have authentic Irish treats, giveaways, and exciting activities for all ages.

3. Enjoy Traditional Irish Fare & Drink

Conveniently located next door to Fáilte, you can continue celebrating Irish culture at McCarthy's Irish Bar, where they're sure to be serving up plenty of smooth whiskey, Kentucky bourbon, and iconic green beer. On the other end of the street, Harvey's Bar is another Irish-owned spot where you can enjoy signature cocktails and local brews while hanging out with friends in the beer garden. Continue the day at other lively Irish pubs, including Molly Brooke's or The Jockey Bar, where live music, festive specials, and plenty of Irish cheer are the next best thing to celebrating in Dublin—only with a little more Bluegrass charm.

4. Explore the Historic Stone Fences of the Bluegrass Region

If celebrating downtown isn't your style, take a scenic drive through the rolling hills of the Bluegrass and marvel at the iconic dry stone fences that serve as a testament to the innovation and rich history of Lexington. With the arrival of European settlers, the traditional dry stonewall technique became common as Kentucky transitioned into an epicenter of agriculture and horse breeding. The stone fences were the ideal solution, and were often built by Irish and Scottish immigrants, indentured servants, and later, enslaved African Americans. Now, these handcrafted fences stand not only as beautiful decoration but as a nod to our heritage, representing the dedication and hard work of generations past.

5. Join the Lexington St. Patrick's Day Bar Crawl

Throw on your best green gear and join the Lucky's St. Patrick's Day Bar Crawl on March 14th. Hop between some of Lexington’s favorite watering holes, sip on festive cocktails, green beer, or a classic bourbon (we won’t judge), and soak up the lively atmosphere with a crowd that knows how to celebrate. Expect drink specials, good vibes, and plenty of shamrock spirit.

6. Celebrate Irish Heritage in Horse Country

As the Horse Capital of the World and Sister City to County Kildare in Ireland, it's natural that Lexington shares ties to the Emerald Isle's rich equestrian culture. Coolmore, which originated in Tipperary, Ireland, has grown into one of the world's largest thoroughbred breeding operations, which you can get a glimpse of Ashford Stud right here in the Bluegrass. Godolphin, another of the world's most prominent breeding and racing operations, has also established a presence in Lexington, standing Darley Stallions at Jonabell Farm and welcoming dozens of foals each year at Gainsborough Farm

By diving into these St. Paddy’s Day adventures, you’ll get a true taste of Lexington—where Irish heritage meets bourbon country, and history is built stone by stone. Whether you’re sipping, dancing, or exploring, you’re in for a celebration that’s as rich as our Bluegrass roots. Sláinte, y’all!
