LEXINGTON, KY – VisitLEX will unveil an advanced 3D holographic technology -- often called a Holobox -- at the Lexington Visitors Center to create lifelike, interactive experiences with local ambassadors.

“Today’s travelers crave authentic, local experiences—and Lexington delivers,” said Mary Quinn Ramer, president of VisitLEX. “At VisitLEX, we saw an opportunity to deepen the visitor connection to our community by leveraging an innovative storytelling platform that bridges technology and personal connection.”

In partnership with Mad Labs, VisitLEX has created “holograms” that showcase 24 diverse Lexington locals who each represent key cultural pillars: equine, bourbon, culinary, music, outdoors and more.

Ambassadors share their stories, explain what makes their industry or craft unique to Lexington, and offer personal recommendations for things to see and do across the city.

Looking for a good walking tour? Mandy Higgins, executive director of the Lexington History Museum has you covered.

How about evening entertainment? Kentucky Music Hall of Famer and blues legend Tee Dee Young has some ideas.

The life-size installation includes features such as multilingual translations and an ADA-friendly functionality. Each local story is also paired with a printed one-sheeter so staff can help visitors quickly locate and learn more about the featured attractions or experiences.

“This project provides a one-of-a-kind, immersive moment for guests—creating a sense of connection and excitement before they even leave the Lexington Visitors Center,” Ramer said. “It also directly supports our strategic mission to inspire exploration, extend time spent in the region and ultimately increase visitor return intent. By combining innovative technology with community voices, VisitLEX has created an experience that is both deeply personal and powerfully memorable. It’s not just about telling people what to do in Lexington—it’s about introducing them to who we are.”

VisitLEX invites all media to the Holobox launch on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 4pm at the Lexington Visitors Center in Historic Courthouse Square.

The public can check out the experience for themselves at the Lexington Visitors Center in Historic Courthouse Square from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
