LEXINGTON, KY (Sept. 30, 2025) – VisitLEX is pleased to announce the launch of Pick Up Perks, a new voluntourism initiative designed to give back to Lexington while giving visitors a perk for doing good. The program invites visitors and locals alike to pick up litter in Lexington’s parks and neighborhoods in exchange for a free cup of drip coffee from a local coffee shop.

“Lexington is known for its natural beauty, walkable neighborhoods, and vibrant community,” said Arin Arnold-Davis, VisitLEX’s Director of Destination Stewardship and Community Engagement. “With Pick Up Perks, visitors can enjoy a great local cup of coffee while experiencing our city in a more meaningful way and leaving it a little better than they found it.”

Participants simply choose one of the participating coffee shops, grab cleanup supplies from that shop or the Lexington Visitors Center, and head out to make a difference by picking up litter in a park or neighborhood. After tossing the trash, they can return to the coffee shop to enjoy a free cup of drip coffee as a thank-you for their efforts. VisitLEX also encourages participants to share their good work on social media to inspire others to join in by tagging VisitLEX and using the hashtag #PickUpPerks.

Pick Up Perks is part of VisitLEX’s broader Lex for Good efforts to promote environmentally conscious, accessible, and inclusive tourism, community pride, and stronger connections among visitors, local businesses, and Lexington’s shared spaces. This initiative also reflects a growing travel trend: Visitors are seeking opportunities to volunteer and engage with the communities they visit. Programs like Pick Up Perks allow travelers to create more meaningful memories, connect with locals, and leave a positive impact behind.
