LEXINGTON -- You know Lexington. You love Lexington. Now is your chance to make it official and share that love. VisitLEX launched the Destination LEXpert program -- a new complimentary program that offers local hospitality staff and volunteers information and resources to help guests connect to the community’s charm, culture and history.
This online course is designed to provide the hospitality community with the knowledge of things to do ranging from outdoor and history attractions to culinary recommendations that provide guests with an array of opportunities to explore the best that Lexington has to offer. The program provides information on the importance of tourism, shares signature hospitality tips and introduces participants to valuable resources to promote Lexington and the region. Participants also will have the opportunity to earn awards.
“As a certified LEXpert, you’ll learn tips on how to create memorable experiences for visitors in Lexington and the Bluegrass Region,” VisitLEX President Mary Quinn Ramer said. “The initiative builds upon Lexington’s best asset -- its people.”
Lexington was recognized in 2023 when Conde Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards named Lexington as the No. 3 friendliest city in the United States.
The program demonstrates how to:
- Proudly convey Lexington’s unique hospitality to guests;
- Understand the role that VisitLEX plays in Lexington and the hospitality community, as well as the resources VisitLEX provides to take care of guests and visitors;
- Speak with confidence about the impact of tourism in Fayette County, which generates $1.6 billion in economic impact and provides more than 11,000 local jobs;
- Demonstrate skills that contribute to exceptional visitor experiences; and
- Find the resources needed to help guide visitors through the region.
There is a brief survey at the end of the course. After participants submit the survey, they will be awarded a certificate of completion, receive exclusive program swag, and gain access to insider information and networking opportunities with other local tourism professionals.
