1. Help Us Keep Lexington Beautiful
Commit to exploring the Bluegrass Region responsibly and help preserve our prized spaces by leaving them better than you found them. Follow instructions and signage; rules are in place for your safety and the well-being of our environment. Lend a hand during one of our community clean-up days and volunteer for a litter cleanup through local non-profit Keep Lexington Beautiful.
2. Respect the Environment
Do your part to preserve the Bluegrass Region’s natural beauty. Make sure to pack out what you packed in, recycle what you can, and dispose of trash in designated receptacles. Stay on the trails, don’t disturb the landscape, and be mindful of your actions. Say no to plastic and bring your own reusable water bottle. Kentucky’s delicious tap water is the best way to stay hydrated.
3. Don’t Touch the Wildlife
Please don’t approach, touch, or feed our animal friends. We know they’re cute but they’re cutest when they’re wild. While you’re sure to see wild animals like deer, squirrels, racoons, possums, birds, and more in nature, be mindful of the horses in the region too. Not touching the wildlife includes horses on our beautiful horse farms.
4. Drink Responsibly
We know that our bourbon, beer, and wine options are world-class, but it is important that you drink with others in mind. If you’re going on a bourbon tour, tasting, or hanging out on the Brewgrass Trail, make sure you organize a designated driver.
5. Slow Down and Travel Mindfully
Lexington might be a city but the best way to enjoy our region is slowly. Stroll through our many wonderful parks, nature preserves, and trails. Eat and drink locally. Shop at a locally owned store for your souvenirs. Our locals love visitors, and we want to keep it that way.
6. Eat Local
Kentucky is the greatest ingredient in our culinary scene. Find local restaurants who not only employ locally but also get their fruits, veggies, dairy, and meat from Kentucky farms as well. Look for the KY GROWN INGREDIENTS indicator at restaurants to eat as fresh and locally as possible.
7. Be Kind
Visiting the Bluegrass Region is meant for everyone. We’re a front porch kind of city and that means everyone belongs here. No one should miss out on a trip to our city because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, physical or mental abilities, economic status, or age.
