Summer in Lexington
Here are some of the regular, weekly events going on in Lexington throughout the Summer of 2018!
Be part of the audience for the taping of this live music show that is heard around the world. Folk, blues or bluegrass, the focus is on grassroots, American music. It all happens at the historic Lyric Theatre in Lexington. The audience must be seated by 6:45 p.m. Kids are welcome.
July 5 through September 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the MoonDance Amphitheatre in Beaumont Centre. Enjoy a free concert featuring some of the best Bluegrass bands in the area. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating and pack a picnic dinner or purchase concessions.
Held every Tuesday evening in the summer, Big Band & Jazz Series is one of Lexington's longest running and most beloved outdoor concert series. The May and June events are held at the Moondance Amphitheatre in Beaumont. In July and August it moves to Ecton Park off Tates Creek Road. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. It's free.
This very popular film series at a restored movie palace in downtown Lexington features beloved films like Wizard of Oz, Saving Private Ryan and Planet of the Apes. Matinee is at 1:30 and the evening showing is at 7:15. Free street parking in downtown after 5 p.m. Admission is just $6.
Be part of the international show in Performance Hall at ArtsPlace on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. Red Barn Radio focuses on bluegrass and traditional Kentucky music, and each show is recorded before a live audience for a later broadcast. Admission is $8.
This is a huge outdoor happy hour. Food and beverage booths are set up in Cheapside Park and open for business at 4:30 p.m. The weekly band plays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Head down Courthouse Square...just follow the crowds! Yes, it is a Happy Hour, but you'll find lots of families there to enjoy the music.
Join the fun every week at Triangle Park in downtown Lexington, July 13-August 17. Movies start at dusk, but make sure to get there a little early to get a good spot and take in the scenery of the beautiful Triangle Park fountains.
April-October from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shop for fruits and vegetables, herbs, flowers, jams and jellies, honey, Kentucky specialties and more in the Cheapside Pavilion. This is a rain or shine event held right beside Courthouse Square.
