The Capital City Museum recognizes the land upon which the museum sits (now known as Frankfort, Kentucky) is primarily ᏣᎳᎫᏪᏘᏱ Tsalaguwetiyi (Cherokee, East), 𐓏𐒰𐓓𐒰𐓓𐒷 𐒼𐓂𐓊𐒻 𐓆𐒻𐒿𐒷 𐓀𐒰^𐓓𐒰^ (Osage), S’atsoyaha (Yuchi), Shawandasse Tula (Shawanwaki/Shawnee), Hopewell, and Adena land. The Museum recognizes that this land is the traditional homelands of many Indigenous nations and continues to remain home to those who have been marginalized and subjugated throughout history. We are committed to decolonizing our thinking and providing historical context to aspects of our collection which perpetuate dangerous ideologies of white supremacy.
