VisitLEX also is kicking off the first Beyond Grits: Kentucky Classics Culinary Walking Tour on Saturday, Aug. 24.
“With inventive, field-to-fork cuisine at every turn, and local chefs on a mission to showcase the unique southern flavors in and around Lexington, this city is undergoing a culinary movement,” Ramer said. “The development of this tour, in partnership with Alex Cain, is a natural progression in our culinary tourism initiatives for the destination.”
At 10 a.m. every Saturday, local foodie Alex Cain will take participants on a two-hour culinary walking tour through downtown Lexington.
All tours will focus on a two-block radius beginning at the Lexington Visitors Center and ending at the Lexington Farmers’ Market. Cain will share information about the community’s deep agricultural roots and booming food scene, Kentucky food traditions, and historical facts while visiting some of the best restaurants in downtown. At most of the stops, participants will hear directly from the chefs themselves while they enjoy locally sourced, bite-sized offerings.
Tour stops include:
- Welcome in the Lexington Visitors Center
- Zim’s Café
- Sunrise Bakery
- Lexington Farmers’ Market
Tickets for the culinary tour will cost $45.00 and are available on visitlex.com: visitlex.com/restaurants/culinary-walking-tours/
