FORBES—Pet ownership in the U.S. has increased significantly over the past few decades. As of 2023, 66% of U.S. households (86.9 million homes) own a pet, up from 56% in 1988.

As pet ownership increases nationwide, so does the interest in living in a pet-friendly city. Recent data show that 68% of pet owners would pass on the perfect home if it didn’t meet their pets’ needs.
