Lexington, KY - Blue Grass Airport Executive Director Eric Frankl, A.A.E., was named Kentucky Commercial Service Airport Manager of the Year at the 40th annual Kentucky Aviation Association Conference in Owensboro, Kentucky. Awarded by the Kentucky Aviation Association, in partnership with the Kentucky Department of Aviation, this recognition is given to an airport manager who embodies a broad depth of knowledge of all aspects of aviation, has a proven record of overseeing airport facilities and improvement projects, and is actively involved in the local, state and federal aviation community.

The Kentucky Aviation Association is a non-profit association that promotes aviation and airport management in the Commonwealth through networking and professional development opportunities. Approximately 300 aviation professionals attended this year's conference to participate in informational sessions and have the opportunity to network with industry colleagues and governmental leaders.

"Eric Frankl has served our community well as Blue Grass Airport's executive director. This recognition by the Kentucky Aviation Association and Kentucky Department of Aviation was well-deserved," said Airport Board Chair Larry Deener. "Under Eric's leadership, the airport has positioned itself to be an attractive, cost-effective venue for our airline partners. Eric's leadership and our employees' hard work have positioned Blue Grass Airport for a successful future."

Eric Frankl joined Blue Grass Airport as executive director in 2009. During his career, he has also held leadership roles at Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and Springfield's Abraham Lincoln Airport. As executive director for Blue Grass Airport, Mr. Frankl has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the airport, including airport operations, finance and administration, development and community relations.

The year 2015 was especially significant for Blue Grass Airport due to its hosting of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. With over 40,000 guests in attendance during this two-day event, Blue Grass Airport was prepared to welcome commercial and general aviation guests-as well as horses-from around the world. Under Mr. Frankl's leadership, the airport provided guests a smooth travel experience and a great first and last impression of the Bluegrass region.
