Lexington Opera House
-
One reviewer called the Lexington Opera House "one of the costliest, handsomest, and most convenient Thespian temples in the South." The current Lexington Opera House was built in 1886 as the "new" opera house after the original was destroyed in a fire. It officially opened in July 1887 and has hosted a number of fascinating events including Al Jolson, Harry Houdini, the County Circus, Henley Regatta and more. Renowned Lexington stonemason and freed slave Henry A. Tandy completed the stonework of the exterior.
