James E. Pepper Distillery
-
Following the Civil War, the Headley and Farra Company established a distillery in Lexington on Old Frankfort Pike. In 1879, the James E Pepper Distillery took ownership and constructed new buildings. Between 1880 and 1901, the company built six warehouses with the capacity to store nearly 50,000 barrels of bourbon. After shuttering in the 1950s, the Pepper campus sat abandoned for many years until the bourbon brand was brought back to its original location.
