GreenRoom Exchange is proud to present an extraordinary evening with Fred Nez-Keams — renowned Navajo (Diné) musician, master flute maker, and captivating storyteller. This is a performance you won't want to miss.

At the heart of the evening is Fred's playing — hauntingly beautiful, deeply powerful music that carries centuries of Native American tradition. Performing on his own handcrafted Woodland and Anasazi-style flutes, Fred brings these ancient instruments to life in ways that are both mesmerizing and deeply moving. He has spent nearly 20 years perfecting his craft, and every note reflects that mastery.

Fred has a deep appreciation of jazz. He’ll be joined on stage by local jazz musicians in a bold, unexpected collaboration; ancient Native American flute meeting the improvisational energy of jazz in a true cross-cultural dialog.

Fred's story is as powerful as his music. About a dozen years ago, his brother Eugene introduced him to the Native American flute — and everything changed. "An unbelievable vibration wave that hits the deepest of my bones," he has said. "From then on my love and ambition for the Native flute began." Drawing on the teachings of his grandparents, a Medicine Man and a Hand Trembler, and shaped by a path that includes hard-won escapes from the difficulties of Native American life. Fred brings raw authenticity to everything he plays. He views his music as "good medicine" — transformative, grounding, and alive.

The evening closes with an open question and answer session. Come ready to be surprised, moved, and inspired.
