Brewgrass Trail
The craft beer movement in Lexington and the Bluegrass Region is alive and well! We are known as the birthplace of bourbon and our world-famous distilleries provide an outstanding visitor experience. Breweries are now scattered across Kentucky, and more and more thirsty travelers are seeking out small craft brewers and locally-made beers in addition to sampling our classic bourbons. Watch a LexTreks video about the Brewgrass Trail.
Three Lexington establishments that craft beer lovers will want to include on their itinerary are:
West Sixth Brewing
The first craft brewery in Kentucky to package their beers in a can. Stop by and check out the newly renovated bread factory turned micro brewery. They do tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Country Boy Brewing
Three self-proclaimed country boys, all Kentucky born and raised, are serving 12 beers (and counting) produced on site. They also pour other local beers.
Alltech's Lexington Brewing Company
Alltech revived a brewery that has been in Lexington since 1794. They began producing Kentucky Ale in 2000. Tours are offered six days a week.
There is a website dedicated to the craft brewers establishing themselves in the Bluegrass. Check out all the hot spots and tour options: brewgrasstrail.com
