The Lexington Farmers’ Market is Awesome! by: Niki

For the perfect start to a beautiful Saturday morning in the Bluegrass, head out to the Lexington Farmers’ Market in historic Cheapside Park.  Not only will you find a wide variety of fresh produce at incredibly reasonable prices, you’ll also find a fantastic opportunity to socialize and enjoy a genuine sense of community.  For much of Lexington’s history this small area nestled in the heart of downtown has served as a place of commerce and as a hub for socializing.  In the 1800’s Cheapside Park was home to ‘Court Days’, a place to buy, sell and trade goods on the second Monday of the month.

When the Lexington Farmers’ Market was relocated from the Vine Street location it occupied for many years to Cheapside Park, I wondered how this change would impact the market.  I’m pleased to say the market is better than ever and in a strange way…it feels like a homecoming of sorts. For those of you who haven’t ventured out to the Farmers’ Market lately, you should know that you can purchase far more than fresh fruits and veggies.  You’ll also find organic meats and eggs, honey, mushrooms, fresh and dried herbs, local wines, freshwater prawns and tilapia, locally produced cheeses and breads, flowers and even soap and body care products. Support the local community and get involved with your fellow Lexingtonians by visiting the Lexington Farmers’ Market in Cheapside Park this Saturday!

The Lexington Farmers’ Market is open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Don't forget the Farmer's market goes all year round! They are at Victorian Square in the winter.
