VisitLEX Honors 23 Hometown Hosts

Published: 06/17/2014

Lexington, KY - VisitLEX recognized 23 individuals representing 17 organizations today as Hometown Hosts at a luncheon reception at the Lexington Center. Developed by VisitLEX in 2004, the Hometown Host Program encourages Lexingtonians to assist with bringing meetings, conventions and events of associations of which they are members home to Lexington. Recipients were awarded with a beautiful commemorative plaque to honor their work in helping bring their groups to town and the economic benefit those meetings and conventions have had on Lexington.

The Hometown Hosts recognized today were responsible for bringing more than 20,000 visitors to Lexington, representing more than 22,100 room nights. The meetings, events or conferences of the individuals honored include:

Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International Annual Meeting
AAU Division 1 U-10 Boys National Basketball Championships
Run the Bluegrass Half-Marathon
International Association of Audio Information Services Annual Conference
Fourth Annual International Forum on Sustainable Manufacturing
2014 Sustainable Manufacturing Workshop
2012 and 2014 Kentucky H.O.G Rally
2013 Model A Restorers Club National Meet
2013 Rotary Zones 30 & 31 Institute
2010 Southeast Theatre Conference Annual Convention
2012 American Alliance for Theatre in Education Annual Conference
Annual KMI Mine Rescue Competition
2012 American Mosaic Summit
Mid-American Association of State Transportation Officials Annual Conference
UK Office of Undergraduate Research
International Cake Exploration Societe
KY Crushed Stone Association

During the luncheon Mr. John Pohl, VisitLEX director of sports and equine sales, discussed the key role each of the Hometown Hosts have played in bringing their groups to Lexington. "Without our Hometown Hosts we would not be able to attract many of the meetings or conventions that have recently taken place in Lexington. By having an active member of an association help with the bid process, it greatly strengthens the chance our destination will be selected for their meeting or event. We are incredibly grateful and honored to work with each of our Hometown Hosts."
