VisitLEX Celebrates Travel & Tourism Week with Staycation Ideas for Locals
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2016) - In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, which runs May 1-7, VisitLEX rolled out a campaign urging locals to create a Staycation and explore everything Lexington and the Bluegrass Region has to offer.
There are 12 billboard ads located around Lexington directing locals to visit www.visitlex.com/staycation to plan the perfect staycation. On the site itineraries are presented for:
• The Foodie
• The Bourbon Buff
• The Artiste
• The Equestrian
• The Beer Enthusiast
• The Nature Lover
• The Romantic Couple
• The Carnivore
• The Family with Little Kids
• The Family with Big Kids
Each itinerary includes ideas for morning, afternoon and evening activities, highlighting attractions, events and local restaurant suggestions.
Visitors inject $2.7 billion into the Lexington and Bluegrass Region economy, and travel supports more than 25,000 jobs.
National Travel and Tourism Week is celebrated in communities across the United States to shine a light on the economic and personal benefits of travel. Employing a diverse workforce, travel and tourism is one of the nation's largest industries:
• Travel generates $2.1 trillion for the U.S. economy and $12.5 billion for Kentucky.
• One in every nine American jobs depends on travel.
• Travel generated $147.9 billion in tax revenue for local, state and federal governments last year.
• Travelers spent $234.4 billion on food services which accounted for 24.9% of total travelers spending.
On Tuesday, May 3, VisitLEX staff members rolled up their sleeves and pulled on gloves to help beautify the expanding NoLi district, home to the popular Night Market, with a focus on the North Pole Community Garden. The first Night Market of the season is scheduled for this Friday, May 6 from 6-10 p.m.
