Global Meetings Industry Day set for April 14 in Lexington

Published: 04/11/2016

LEXINGTON - The first ever Global Meetings Industry Day is set for April 14. The inaugural celebration in Kentucky will take place in Lexington with two signature events held at 21c Museum Hotel and Keeneland Race Course.

Leaders from across the meetings and events industry will come together to showcase the real impact that business meetings, conventions, trade shows and exhibitions have on communities and economic development.

"The meetings industry is an extremely important component of tourism," said Mary Quinn Ramer, president of VisitLEX. "Not only do convention visitors spend more money per day in our city than leisure travelers, conventions also lead to economic development. As businesses are introduced to our city, many of them begin to think of Lexington as a location for company."

The Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter of the Meeting Professionals Industry (MPI) is leading the effort in the state to celebrate Global Meeting Industry Day on April 14. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with an educational meeting and brunch at the 21c Museum Hotel in downtown Lexington.

"Meetings mean business throughout Kentucky, the U.S., and across the world. Global Meetings Industry Day recognizes the tremendous economic impact generated by meetings & conventions and celebrates the work of millions of planners and hospitality industry professionals who make meetings happen every day. The state of Kentucky's MPI - Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter is so proud to be part of this worldwide celebration to recognize the economic power of the meetings industry."

Julie Kirkpatrick, VP Sales & Marketing, meetNKY | Northern Kentucky CVB and President-Elect of MPI - Kentucky Chapter.
Kim Koeller, founder of Allergy Free Passport and its affiliate Gluten Free Passport in 2005, will be the featured speaker. She is an internationally acclaimed speaker, global consultant and award-winning creator of the Let's Eat Out Gluten & Allergy Free series of books, ebooks, mobile apps and restaurant cards. Koeller's advice has appeared in worldwide television and print publications including National Geographic Traveler, NBC, USA Today, Food & Drink and Allergy New Zealand.
This educational meeting will be followed by a celebration event at Keeneland Race Course from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
