Dressage Often referred to as 'horse ballet', gaits and and intricate movements are performed at the highest level. Dressage is a French term meaning "training" and horses must be able to perform a set series of precise movements.

Eventing Eventing is the equivalent of an 'equestrian triathlon'. The three phases are: dressage, endurance (or cross-country), and show jumping.

Driving Teams of four horses compete over four days with two days devoted to dressage, one to marathon, and one to driving an intricate course marked by cones.
![]() |
Endurance Similar to a marathon race, horses must run a 160-kilometer course in the shortest time possible. Titles of individual and team champion are awarded, and the Veterinary Commission will elect the horse deemed to be in 'best condition' from the ten fastest.

Vaulting This thrilling event is most easily described as gymnastics performed on a moving horse. Participants are judged on a set of compulsory moves and in freestyle competition.

Reining Contestants on ranch-type horses work one of ten approved patterns which include small slow circles, flying lead changes, 360-degree spins done in place, and exciting sliding stops.
